Use case: UX research
For UX research teams turning interviews into product insights
A UX research repository that doesn't punish you for being thorough. Code interviews visually, share insights with stakeholders, search across past studies in seconds.
The problem this solves
UX research has always lived between two bad options: rigorous tools (NVivo, Atlas.ti) that have a 4-week learning curve, or sticky notes in Miro that give you no audit trail and no findability. PMs end up asking "did we ever interview anyone about [X]?" and the only honest answer is "let me dig through Notion for an hour".
QualCanvas is the middle ground: spatial canvases like Miro, but with structured coding underneath so insights are searchable across studies.
How UX teams use it
- Single-interview canvasesOne canvas per interview. Code as you go or after. Themes from this canvas roll up into the study-level canvas automatically.
- Cross-study searchSearch "checkout flow" and see every quote, theme, and observation across every study you've ever run. Insights compound instead of getting buried.
- Stakeholder canvasesRead-only canvases shareable with PMs and designers. Comments and questions come back into the canvas — no more "I hear what you found, but where's the evidence?"
- Research-op handoffsWhen a researcher leaves the team, their canvases stay with the team. New researchers get the analytical trail and the source material together.
Comparison to common alternatives
- vs. DovetailDovetail is great for tagged-quote search, but its analytical model is shallow — themes are flat tags. QualCanvas gives you spatial relationships and unlimited theme depth.
- vs. NotionNotion has no audit trail, no inter-coder reliability, no spatial canvas. Fine for note-taking, weak for analysis.
- vs. MiroMiro has the canvas but no underlying coding structure. You get the spatial part but lose the searchable repository.
- vs. NVivoNVivo is rigorous but has a steep learning curve and is desktop-only. QualCanvas is browser-based, real-time collaborative, and gets you to first insights in 20 minutes.
